What is Charity Journal?

Charity Journal is an Australian not-for-profit, volunteer-led storytelling platform that empowers charity leaders, advocates, and ambassadors to share their stories with the community.

Our passionate team of volunteer writers is dedicated to bringing these stories to life, with the goal of fostering awareness, connection, and positive change.

Why do we exist?

Charity Journal’s mission is to help advance social welfare, education, and culture by providing a platform for charity leaders, advocates, and ambassadors to share their stories through interviews and feature articles.

At the same time, volunteer writers have an opportunity to develop their skills, build their writing portfolio, and contribute to meaningful storytelling that promotes community resilience.

Our values

At Charity Journal, our work is guided by four core values:

  • Empowerment: We believe in amplifying the voices of charity leaders, advocates and ambassadors, giving them a platform to inspire change and promote awareness.
  • Connection: We are committed to fostering meaningful relationships between individuals, charities and communities by sharing stories that inspire understanding and empathy.
  • Integrity: We uphold honesty, transparency and respect in every story we publish, ensuring authenticity and fairness in our content.
  • Growth: We are dedicated to nurturing our volunteer writers, supporting their professional development and providing opportunities to expand their skills and portfolios.

Financial model

Charity Journal is supported by donations and supporters, ensuring we remain a free and ad-free platform. As Charity Journal is a registered not-for-profit in Australia, donations and supporter contributions go towards:

  • ongoing operations (the technology behind the scenes).
  • article outreach initiatives and promotion (to get stories more attention).
  • writer professional development (supporting volunteers to thrive).

We are grateful to our community for making this possible. If you’d like to make a donation, please contact us, or you might be interested in joining as a supporter

Founding Patron

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Matthew Levy OAM for being the first financial supporter, and therefore Founding Patron, of Charity Journal.

"I believe storytelling is a powerful tool for education and inspiration. Through Charity Journal, we can amplify the voices of those making a difference. From my experience as a Paralympian to my work with various charities, I’ve seen firsthand  how sharing stories can foster awareness, connection and positive change in our community.” – Matthew Levy OAM
